Adult Learn to Sail

As an off-the-beach sailing club we have a wide range of dinghies and small catamarans to offer a great way to get into sailing. Sailing a dinghy or catamaran can be fun and exhilarating and the Discover Sailing learn to sail programs have been developed to provide a safe introduction to dinghy and catamaran sailing.

There are specific Programs targeted towards young children (7-12 yrs) called “Tackers”.

 There are a number of levels available in the Discover Sailing Pathway and the table below gives you a brief idea of these.

Start Sailing 1 (Level 1)

Your Discover Sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamental skills of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a safe and supportive environment.

Start Sailing 2 (Level 1)

Your Discover Sailing journey continues as you further develop all of the fundamental dinghy sailing skills. You are now equipped to sail your dinghy on your own voyages of discovery.

Better Sailing (Level 2)

Discover Sailing in stronger winds as you develop the skills required to get maximum speed from your dinghy. Your journey speeds up as you experience the thrill of trapezing and using a spinnaker.

This course is designed to equip the sailor with enhanced skills and awareness of the surrounding environment.

Start Racing (Level 3)

The aim of this course is to introduce dinghy sailors to basic competitive sailing. The course focuses on refining enhanced boat handling skills including speed control and maneuvers. Introducing racing tactics and strategies.

Better Racing (Level 3)

The better racing course introduces sailors to using a compass and also to the concept of tuning your boat to enable them to be better at racing.
