Tackers is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7 to 12. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t have to be a member of a club to participate. All the equipment, including the boats, is provided. Kids play loads of games and go on adventures together to learn how to sail. There isn’t a court, a pitch or an oval like other sports, instead you have a beach and bay to explore.

Tackers One – Having Fun
In the first course of Tackers kids sail in pairs in small boats. It’s a great way to meet new friends and kids have the chance to sail with others in their group.
Classes will run in either a series of Sunday mornings or as a 1 week school holiday programme in the September, Christmas and Easter holidays. Register your interest with the club.
$330 for 20 hours over either 4 days or eight Sundays.

Tackers Two – Tricks and Techniques
Once kids are feeling confident, they can sail a boat on their own with lots of support, supervision and encouragement from the Instructor and Assistant Instructors. This series of classes builds on the fundamentals learnt in Tackers 1.
Tackers Three – Sailing Fast
This is a chance for the kids to sail boats on their own, learning how to make the boat go faster and playing more games.

An extension after Tackers for those looking to join the Humpybong Optimist Team. This will involve introductory racing to get the kids used to the concepts of sailing in a group. This will also give the kids an introduction to the non-plastic Optimist dinghies.
Youth Racing will involve some racing close to shore and occasionally joining the adults on the outer race course for some open water experience. Youth Racing runs on Sundays starting at 12:30 and is prepaid by the term.
