An update from the president.
This Sunday the 9th of November 2008 we will host Moreton Bay Marine supplies Club Championships(see calendar). Briefing will be around 10:30 a.m. with the race format announced on the day. Don't forget if you need any parts for your boat please support our club sponsors. The following weekend we will host the Mirror state titles on the 15th and 16th of November 2008(see calendar). To make this event successful we will need volunteers for rescue boat, start boat canteen and general duties around the club. Please let Russ or Leon know if you can help. On the Saturday night the club will put on a barbecue for the mirrors and any members that wish to join in. Hopefully the club will be represented in these titles by five of our own club boat's; Our president Russ McDonald will be taking one of our juniors, Matthew Hatton, for the experience of sailing in a state title. If you are interested in sailing one of our club crafts for these titles then please speak with Brian Johnson or Russ on the weekend.
The weekend following this, the club will start its first learn-to-sail program for the season this will be on Saturday the 22nd of November, Saturday the 6th of December, and Saturday the 20th of December. It will commence at around 8 a.m. on these mornings and continue through to around 3 p.m. So if you have made any inquiries into our learn-to-sail then please contact us and we will put you on the list. If you have been a member of our learn-to-sail program in the past and we invite you to the club on these days so you may gain more experience in our sport of sailing. If you have your own boat, bring it along.
With Christmas rapidly approaching us and many other members will be travelling to their national and world titles over this period. The rivalry at the club within the racing fraternity has gained momentum and we should see some good sailing between now and then. Humpybong yacht club wishes them all the best and a safe journey.
The club will host 2008/09 Formula 18 national championships on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of February 2009. This will be a major event and the club will need your help once again. As we are all aware, these boats are big, they are fast, and they look fantastic on the water. So once again if you can help over the weekend then please let your committee know.
It is great to see that the roster for rescue boat has been honoured well buy you, the members of our club. We thank you for that and we hope that you can continue the great work. Please remember that when you are rostered for the day, sign on and record that you are on rescue duty for the day and you will receive average points within your series. You also are not necessarily rostered to the boat that you have been assigned; you may ask the other people rostered along with you if you can swap your positions around. I ask all to be fair on this.
On the 29th of November is a yacht in Queensland meeting. This meeting is a very important meeting as it will determine the new Yachting Queensland fees to be paid by each and every one of you as members of this club. The meeting will be attended by myself Peter Bradbury, and Leon McNeil. The Club feels very strongly that we should maintain the current banding system as we feel it works well. There will be many proposals put forward at this meeting and we will try to vote in the best interests of the club.
A bad day sailing is better than a good day at work! See you on the water.
Yours in sailing,
Russ McDonald
President Humpybong Yacht Club
