09 Jul 10 4:20
Congratulations to Brad Collett following his excellent placing at the International A Class Division World Championships at Cesenatico, Italy from 26 June to 3rd July. Brad sailing his new Scheurer cat held onto nineteenth place despite fierce competition from the 100 strong entry list. Virtually all races were sailed in light and flukey winds and strong tides which hampered competitors especially around the top mark. Brad said consistency was needed in every race to stay with the leaders and there were few opportunities to do the wild thing or trapeze for more than a single leg. He said the Worlds will always be a major event because of the international and olympic standard sailors competing. Brad is already preparing for the 2011 Worlds in Denmark and the Australian Nationals at Lake Cootharaba next January. He was eighth placed Australian in the top 20 behind overall winner, now seven times World A Class champion Glenn Ashby. The other podium winners Steve Brewin and Jack Benson continued Australia’s A class domination.President's Report July 2010

Over the last weekend 25th & 26th July Humpybong Yacht Club was represented by two of our junior sailors, Saraya D'arth and Joel Cox, Both competing in the green fleet competition of the Qld Optimist State Titles held at Royal Qld Yacht Squadron, Manly. This was very first regatta that Saraya has skippered, with a very creditable finish of 10th placing out of 18 boats. This is a fantastic boost to her confidence and I think we may be seeing her compete in many more regattas in the future.
