HYC Update6th November 2008 This Sunday the 9th of November 2008 we will host Moreton Bay Marine supplies Club Championships(see calendar). Briefing will be around 10:30 a.m. with the race format announced on the day. Don't forget if you need any parts for your boat please support our club sponsors. The following weekend we will host the Mirror state titles on the 15th and 16th of November 2008(see calendar). To make this event successful we will need volunteers for rescue boat, start boat canteen and general duties around the club. Please let Russ or Leon know if you can help. On the Saturday night the club will put on a barbecue for the mirrors and any members that wish to join in. Hopefully the club will be represented in these titles by five of our own club boat's; Our president Russ McDonald will be taking one of our juniors, Matthew Hatton, for the experience of sailing in a state title. If you are interested in sailing one of our club crafts for these titles then please speak with Brian Johnson or Russ on the weekend. The weekend following this, the club will start its first learn-to-sail program for the season this will be on Saturday the 22nd of November, Saturday the 6th of December, and Saturday the 20th of December. It will commence at around 8 a.m. on these mornings and continue through to around 3 p.m. So if you have made any inquiries into our learn-to-sail then please contact us and we will put you on the list. If you have been a member of our learn-to-sail program in the past and we invite you to the club on these days so you may gain more experience in our sport of sailing. If you have your own boat, bring it along. With Christmas rapidly approaching us and many other members will be travelling to their national and world titles over this period. The rivalry at the club within the racing fraternity has gained momentum and we should see some good sailing between now and then. Humpybong yacht club wishes them all the best and a safe journey. The club will host 2008/09 Formula 18 national championships on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of February 2009. This will be a major event and the club will need your help once again. As we are all aware, these boats are big, they are fast, and they look fantastic on the water. So once again if you can help over the weekend then please let your committee know. It is great to see that the roster for rescue boat has been honoured well buy you, the members of our club. We thank you for that and we hope that you can continue the great work. Please remember that when you are rostered for the day, sign on and record that you are on rescue duty for the day and you will receive average points within your series. You also are not necessarily rostered to the boat that you have been assigned; you may ask the other people rostered along with you if you can swap your positions around. I ask all to be fair on this. On the 29th of November is a yacht in Queensland meeting. This meeting is a very important meeting as it will determine the new Yachting Queensland fees to be paid by each and every one of you as members of this club. The meeting will be attended by myself Peter Bradbury, and Leon McNeil. The Club feels very strongly that we should maintain the current banding system as we feel it works well. There will be many proposals put forward at this meeting and we will try to vote in the best interests of the club. A bad day sailing is better than a good day at work! See you on the water. Yours in sailing,Russ McDonaldPresident Humpybong Yacht ClubBack to top |

A reminder from QYA on Silver Cards3rd October 2008 It has come to the attention of Yachting Queensland that there are sailors competing in sailing events in Queensland without a current Yachting Australia Card (Silver Card). Some members have been using cards which are out of date (eg. cards from the year 2000 etc) and some sailors are just quoting their YA number and do not have a current Silver Card. YQ Clubs and Class Associations need to bring this matter to the attention of their members. To sail in any event or competition in Queensland , Nationally or Internationally the competitor must have a current Silver Card. Clubs and Class Associations are requested to ensure that Silver Cards are viewed prior to competition and that verbal advice of a YA number is not taken as sufficient evidence that a person has a current Silver Card. The status of Silver Cards can be viewed on the My Club website or by checking with Yachting Queensland. It is not fair on those sailors who have paid for a Silver Card that others compete without one. Individuals who participate and Clubs who allow sailors to participate in sailing events without a Silver Card may be subject to action under the YA Racing Rules of Sailing. Your assistance in controlling and enforcing this matter is appreciated.Back to top |

Great success with the HYC Humpybash23rd September 2008 Well the 2008 Bias “Boating Warehouse Humpybash” has been and gone for this year and what a bash it turned out to be. Firstly, Humpybong Yacht Club would like to extend our thanks to Bias Boating Warehouse for the generous support once again in supplying the prizes for the event. This is a huge reason the event became such a success and in return I would urge each and everyone of you to support Bias Boating Warehouse the next time you are in need of boat parts. The event started on Saturday with a brisk, North - North Westerly breeze, 20 kn plus and with three races gazetted back to back, the race committee knew they would have their hands full. All boats hit the water and made their way to the start. Some skippers elected to have a swim on their way out to the start, but I believe this only was to cool down as the day was 28°. As the first race got underway it became more evident that some (most) would struggled with the conditions. One18 foot skiff was seen out of control and heading for Sandgate, but to no surprise the skilful crew decided to ditch it, to save embarrassment. Though the conditions were testing the laser fleet, with three junior sailors amongst it, revelled in the conditions, wind, waves, speed to burn. After the three races for the day were completed and with some sailing home and others opting for a free tow by the club rescue boats, Humpybong yacht club put on a barbecue that was attended by many. There were a few tall stories about the day, a little watch of the football and then a well earned sleep was the element of the night event. (All needed to be ready for the final three races on Sunday with the same forecast ). Sunday morning adorned and the shuffle of the weary, blury eyed sailors could be heard in the rigging area. Some sailors were even seen pondering on what the weather conditions would do. The morning was glorious, with just a hint of breeze from the North and the race committee readied the rescue boats for the day and a decision to run all three races back to back from around 11 a.m.. This decision turned to be good as it made fairer racing for all. First race of the day started in about a 10 kn of breeze with it building to 15 to 20 kn for the last race. 30 boat started on the water ranging from 18 foot skiff's, F18, F-15, impulse, mirrors, lasers, arrows, Nacra 5.0’s, 4.5,16 squares, wind rush, Maricat 4.3’s and Aclass, this made for an awesome sight on Bramble Bay and a fantastic boost for our great sport. Humpybong Yacht Club has enjoyed hosting this fantastic event and thanks all helpers and competitors of the bash along with my I mentioned once again, Bias Boating Warehouse, for without you all the event would not have been a success.
